“They hit the ball well, we do okay,” Ogilvie said. “I watched the video after we played them earlier in the year (a 9-8 Hanover Park win) and they all hit the ball well. They hit the ball to all fields. I have to find their weak spots, what they don’t like and go after them. But that won’t be easy, because from one through nine they hit the ball.”

The same can be said of the Colonials, particularly center fielder Peter Curower (.534, 37 runs, 39 RBIs, 13 stolen bases), Tom Olivo (.414, 34 RBIs), Evan Ogilvie (.435) and DH Evan Davis (.438, 34 RBIs).

Many of the teams in the tournament already know not to take the extra base when Evan Davis fields the ball. In the fifth inning, with Morristown ahead 5-2, South Jersey’s Frank Marciano singled to right center. South Jersey’s Chris Pino tried to go from first to third on the play, but he was shot down on a strong throw on the fly from Davis to Bilodeau, who tagged Pino out in plenty of time.

Davis proceeded to handle the pitch the way any hungry kid would – he devoured it.

At the heart of that damage could be center fielder Evan Davis, who blasted two home runs against Pequannock to help win the sectional title. One of those dingers was a monstrous, 300-foot shot. He has six home runs in tournament play so far this summer.
